Feature Interview: Modo Pearls

Tell us something about yourself?
Modo consists of myself and my wife, we have come from very different areas of design and aesthetics and we bring this diversity to our jewellery. We love designing jewellery as we believe that beautiful things are enduring.

Modo has really become a fantastic outlet for the both of us to explore and wander through the huge world of design. It really is an exciting journey, which we don’t know where it will eventually take us.

What are your sources of inspiration?
We get inspiration from many areas including some of the great cities we have lived in through to the quiet mountain we now call home. We find inspiration in colours, textures, and looks, as well as the many top notes that can found in today’s popular culture.

Where and when did you learn your craft? Who taught you?

We learnt our craft over time from being exposed to design through our careers and every piece of what we do has been learnt, sometimes very slowly, over a long gestation period. Craft comes with time, and test and learn is an important part of that journey.
Aside from your craft, what else do you enjoy doing?
We are a family business including kids, pets, and friends. This all keeps us pretty busy in our day-to-day lives just enjoying and making the most of what is around us.

What piece of advise can you give to other artists?
Be proud and true to your point of view, be prepared to make mistakes, and don’t pre-judge your work, let your customers’ be your judge.
What are your plans for the future?

We love what we do and are seeing a huge groundswell in the handcrafted, artisan economy. We firmly believe that women are getting tired of mass designed, mass produced, and mass worn. More and more women today are looking for fashion that is unique, handcrafted and peronalised for individual custom styling. We believe this is the future of fabulous design.
We are currently also focused on building out our footprint to reach broader, larger markets.

Modo pearls will be at the Dreamers Market on March 21, 2015. Saturday. at the Riverside Theaters, Parramatta . 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
